Some Great Rat Websites:

Lil Ratscals CPRClub
Started in 2004 by Carole Nelson.  Canadian-based club.  Membership is free and members have access to a forum.  Informal get-togethers in Ottawa.

The Rat Fan Club

Founded in 1992 by Debbie Ducommun.   US-based club.  For the first 15 years, members paid a fee and got a newsletter, the Rat Report.  In June 2007, the Rat Report was discontinued.  Membership is now free.  Members have access to a forum.  The Rat Assistance & Teaching Society is the non-profit organization associated with the rat fan club.

A favourite rat site.  Created by the author Suebee, this website has the very personal atmosphere of a truly devoted pet rat owner.  Not only is the site full of affection for rats, it is also a great source of information.  There is a comprehensive brochure on Pet Shop Guidelines as well as compiled a list of articles on cedar toxicity.  An extensive Rat Names List is available for those of you looking for the perfect name for your pet!  Suebee has also included the recipe for the homemade diet she feeds her rats since the commercial rat diets out there are often inadequate.  This site has a very popular forum.

The Rat and Mouse Club of America (RMCA)

No matter where you live in the world, you can participate in this club through their bi-monthly magazine called the Rat & Mouse Gazette.  Unfortunately the Gazette has recently been discontinued but articles will remain on-line and the magazine may start up again in the future.  The site offers an extensive collection of short articles that have been published in the magazine, FAQs, rat standards, and a medical drug chart (an excellent reference if your rat becomes ill).  Rat-related merchandise such as T-shirts, beautiful rat posters, mugs and bookmarks can be purchased from the RMCA as well.  An excellent resource for everyone.

Canada has a chapter of the RMCA in Quebec:

American Fancy Rat and Mouse Association

There is an excellent list of rat colour/coat/body type varieties with photos on this website.  The AFRMA is based in Southern California.  Membership includes the Rulebook, Show Regulations & Standards Book, Directory, Sales Catalog, membership card, Newsletter: Rat and Mouse Tales, and other informative materials but the association is heavily geared towards members in southern california.  Merchandise such as posters, bumper stickers, and clothing are available in the Sales Catalogue (can be viewed online).  Membership for Canadians is US$30.
