"The first photo is my fave photo ever of Baby Weebles, peeking out from behind the toy basket. Baby Weebles (although hardly a baby now at 19 months!) is the daughter of one of my first Rat Girls, Tilda. She got her name originally from her habit of bobbing her head back and forth while concentrating on something - she reminded me of the slogan 'Weebles wobble but they don't fall down'. She lost her Mama and her Auntie Emer on the same evening over a month ago and was so lonely and depressed that we adopted two little baby Himi girls from my fave person of all time - Christina of Bluenose Rattery in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Now Weebles is back to her happy, healthy energetic self! I was so totally freaked out about losing Emer and Tilda on the same evening right before my eyes that it actually crossed my mind to adopt out Weebles to a good home - I knew she couldn't live alone but I couldn't see going through such heartache again! I couldn't give her up, though, and in the end decided to bring home some new companions for her. I'm glad I made that decision! |

The second photo is of my two new Girls together. Iris Luminous (seen on the top) and Lili Lambkins (seen on the bottom, looking up) are 2.5 months old and are both Himis (their mother Maggie is a Himi). Iris has a lovely smooth white coat that almost appears to glow in the dark - hence her second name :-), and Lili has inherited her daddy Sabre's lovely rex coat - hence HER second name! Iris is the biggest of the two Girls and is truly the adventurous one - first out of the cage, first one in the jumper or bathrobe, etc. She started getting her points in a couple of weeks ago, but only on her nose - so far none on her little hands, feet or base of tail. She's so sweet - she looks like she has a smoky smudge on her nose! Lili has gotten a smudge on her nose, as well, but also on her ears, which seems kind of strange, but so adorable! She's more timid than her sister Iris when it comes to getting out of the cage but she loves people and will jump right onto your outstretched hand. So sweet! They've fallen right in with Weebles on the 'loads of veggies, please!' plea every night - although they only like the sweetcorn, peas and lima beans. They won't touch the green beans or the carrots. I think I'm going to have buying other kinds of veggies to give them more variety. |

All three Girls have been fast friends upon their first introduction, even when Iris and Lili have Weebles down on the floor, leaping up and down on her (using her as their rattie trampoline!) while squeaking furiously. Weebles just lays there and looks up at me with this 'Awwww, they're sooooo sweet!' expression on her face! I call her their 'Big Mama' cos she's quite a big girl, although I suspect Iris and Lili will grow to be much bigger than Weebles, if their parents are any indication! Their fave sleeping spot right now is all three of them crammed into a child's winter hat that came home with Iris and Lili from Christina's, which I have hung from the top of the cage - it's like their hanging swinging nest and they love it - in fact they haven't chewed it to pieces yet, which is a rare feat! I've given up on hammocks entirely for that reason." |
